A venture capitalist or a venture capital firm would examine a company's business plan in order to see the company's plan for growth. It is also through the business plan wherein they can predict the risk involved in providing venture capital funds to a certain business or company. There are actually three vital features wherein venture capitalist and venture capital firms focused and these are as follows:
1. A business' products and services.
Venture capital firms would usually try to analyze the viability of a business' products and services. They usually prefer products and services that have rooms for innovations since this will provide a business with strong competitive edge. It would also help if there are market surveys to back up the innovation plans of products and services since venture capital firms may be able determine whether a business has the potential to pay or not.
2. Management capability
Management is the key factor to the success of any type of business. No matter how impressive a business product or service is, if it is not handled or managed properly then the business will not prosper and worst may even cause a business to go bankrupt. Venture capital firms usually make sure that the management of the business they will finance is handled by skilled, knowledgeable and capable individual. They would often make researches on the ability of the person managing the business. And if ever they are convince of the ability to manage of the business owner then that is the only time that they provide capital financing.
3. The industry growth.
Venture capital firms also make sure that the products and services of a business are not only competitive but also have the qualities that customers will need for a very long time. This will of course lessen the investment risk involved in financing a business.
As additional measure to protect their investment venture capital firms usually have their own people sitting as part of the board of directors. If they are not on the board you may be able to find venture capitalist occupying positions related to management or they may also provide technical advices on the business that they have funded.
